Staying Safe on Reel Dating
Reel Dating is designed to help people meet in a more intentional, video-first way. Your safety, boundaries, and comfort come first—online and in person.
Trust your instincts. If something feels off, you can unmatch, block, and report directly in the app. In an emergency or if you feel in danger, contact your local emergency services immediately.
1. Protect your information
Get to know people gradually. You are never required to share any information you are not comfortable sharing.
- Keep personal details private. Avoid sharing your home address, workplace, daily routines, or financial information in chat or on your profile.
- Use in-app messaging. Keep conversations inside Reel Dating until you feel ready to move them elsewhere. Be cautious before sharing your phone number or social media.
- Never send money or financial details. Don't share bank info, credit card numbers, codes, or one-time passwords, and don't send crypto or gift cards to someone you haven't met and vetted in real life.
- Be careful with photos and videos. Anything you send can be saved or shared. Avoid sending intimate images or content you wouldn't want made public.
2. Spot scams and suspicious behavior
Most people use dating apps with good intentions, but some do not. Be cautious if someone:
- Refuses to show their face on video or constantly avoids video.
- Quickly moves the conversation toward money, investments, "emergencies," or business opportunities.
- Pressures you to move to another app immediately, especially encrypted platforms, and then changes their name or story.
- Says they are overseas, traveling, or deployed and uses this as the reason they can't meet or video chat.
- Threatens, blackmails, or attempts to extort you (for example, by threatening to share photos).
If you suspect a scam, stop communicating, block the user, and report the profile inside the app.
3. Before you meet in person
Take your time. You never have to meet someone until you feel ready and safe doing so.
- Use video first. Have at least one live video call before agreeing to meet. This helps confirm the person matches their profile.
- Check for consistency. Do their stories, photos, and video calls feel consistent over time? If anything doesn't add up, pause and reconsider.
- Share your plans. Tell a trusted friend or family member who you're meeting, where, and when. Share your location with them if possible.
- Plan your own transportation. Use your own car or a rideshare service so you can leave anytime. Avoid having your date pick you up at your home.
4. Meeting in person
- Meet in a public, well-lit place. Restaurants, cafés, or other busy spaces are better than private homes for early dates.
- Stay in control of food and drinks. Don't leave drinks or personal items unattended. If something doesn't feel right, get a new drink.
- Set boundaries early. You can say "no" at any time—to hugs, kisses, going somewhere else, or anything physical.
- Keep your phone charged. Make sure you can call a ride, friend, or emergency services if needed.
5. Drugs, alcohol, and consent
- Impaired = unsafe. Alcohol and drugs can affect judgment and make it harder to recognize risky situations.
- Consent must be clear and ongoing. It should be enthusiastic, freely given, and can be withdrawn at any time.
- No means no. Pressuring someone after they say no—or ignoring what they say—is never acceptable.
- If you or someone else is in immediate danger or has been harmed, contact emergency services right away.
6. Blocking, reporting, and community safety
Help keep the community safe by using in-app tools whenever you encounter harmful behavior.
- Block quickly. You can block or unmatch anyone who makes you feel uncomfortable, disrespects your boundaries, or behaves inappropriately.
- Report violations. Use the in-app report feature to tell us about harassment, threats, hate speech, scams, fake profiles, or anything that breaks our Community Guidelines.
- Document serious incidents. Save screenshots or message history if you feel you may need to speak with law enforcement or support services.
7. If something goes wrong
Your safety is more important than any conversation, date, or match. If you ever feel unsafe:
- Leave the situation as soon as you can.
- Go to a public place where you can ask staff or others for help.
- Call a trusted friend or family member.
- Contact your local emergency number if you are in immediate danger or have been assaulted.
Afterward, you can block and report the person through the app so our team can review and take appropriate action.
8. Our commitment
Reel Dating can't guarantee the behavior or identity of any person you connect with, but we are committed to:
- Providing tools to help you control your experience.
- Reviewing serious reports and taking action where appropriate.
- Continuing to improve our safety features and policies as we learn from our community.
Healthy connections are built on mutual respect, honesty, and choice. You always have the right to set boundaries, change your mind, and prioritize your safety.
These safety guidelines are for general informational purposes only and do not replace professional advice, law enforcement guidance, or local resources. If you have concerns about your safety, please reach out to local authorities or trusted support organizations in your area.
